Simply tap in your tempo to determine what speed you're rehearsing at. Later recall that tempo by simply entering it on the keypad — (the word "simply" is used twice for a reason: ClickTap is the simplest, most useful metronome ever)!

How it helped me get hired.
I'd been invited back for a second audition as drummer for a steadily-booked country/rock band — and I was excited. The lead singer, Erin, had great stage presence, and could really groove when she had the right support. This was a group I’d be proud to be in! But there was a problem...
The band knew their songs. I didn't. And they were looking to me for consistent tempos and solid groove.
We covered a lot of material in the first rehearsal, and I did my best to take notes on each song’s tempo and basic rhythm. I had a metronome app on my phone — and even though it had a tap-tempo feature, the small buttons and techy-looking interface made dialing in the right tempo just too time-consuming. The band was polite, but I could tell they were waiting for me. Not good.
The gap between ending one song and starting the next song is surprisingly quick. Going forward, I'd need to have the next song’s tempo literally at my fingertips before the rest of the band was ready to go. And there wouldn't be time to fiddle around with a cumbersome metronome. I thought, “Hmm, if I could have a metronome with a keypad entry, I could call up the next song’s tempo almost instantly.”
And that was my light-bulb moment. I needed a metronome unlike any I’d ever seen. It needed to have:
▶ An uncluttered interface — there’s no time to search for the right buttons.
▶ Keypad entry, with big buttons — speed is everything.
▶ A big blinking light I can see out of the corner of my eye as the song goes along.
▶ A natural, analog “click” sound, in case I want to plug in an ear-bud
▶ An accurate, easy tap-tempo capability with clear visual feedback
▶ Absence of gadgets, features, and fanciness — because my job was to make Erin groove, not waste precious seconds fiddling around with a detailed interface.
By the time I was asked to come back for a third rehearsal, ClickTap was in beta, running live on my phone. I showed it to the band, and they were really impressed! I’d like to think it was my drumming that got me the long-term gig, but it may have been the professionalism of ClickTap. Either way, I’m their drummer now. Thanks ClickTap!

Ease. Suppose you’re nearing the end of a song that’s at 118bpm, and your next song will be at 122bpm. The song ends, and you reach over to your phone and simply type 122. ClickTap immediately switches to 122bpm, and you count off the next song without a moment lost. Easy breezy.

Human Connection ▼
You have options: Plug in an earbud and hear an analog click, or just watch ClickTap’s large blinking screen. Most metronomes have a small blinking light, but ClickTap uses the whole screen as a blink, which means you can see it even if you're not looking directly at it. Now you can get your head up out of the music stand and engage with your band and audience.

ClickTap is not a multi-faceted scout camping knife (the kind with fold-out fork, spoon, and several blades). ClickTap is a single, high-quality time-keeping helper. ClickTap does not slave to external computers, trigger samples, or control stage lighting. ClickTap is for bands who play analog, but want to rehearse with intentionality and count off their songs at consistent tempos from one show to the next. Singers appreciate it when the song is going at the speed that's comfortable for them, every time.

No computer “boink” or spikey electronic sound — just a great sounding acoustic rimshot that never grows old. And if you don’t want to hear it, just turn your phone's volume down.

It just works. Tap with your finger, and receive accurate, visual feedback. ClickTap immediately adjusts to your new tapped tempo. And the beats-per-minute is handily displayed at the bottom of the screen, adjusting on-the-fly to your taps.

It feels right. ClickTap's small square "conductor" flows in a natural, human-like way, and is very easy to follow even from a distance.

Although adding more features to ClickTap would be easy, we believe that doing so would make it less useful. We've intentionally chosen to stay true to ClickTap’s purpose, which is to be the simplest, fastest way to identify song tempos, and consistently call them up during live performance. Less is more.
